What to tell a guest

A guest wants the Old City but is nervous about it. What do I say?

Give them a fixed base rather than a vague direction. That is the whole value of this to your desk — the guest is not being sent into a crowded quarter to fend for themselves.

“There is a place two minutes from Charminar with a private floor. I can book it, arrange the parking and have it confirmed back to me in writing before you leave.”
What can a guest actually do there, besides eat?

Four things they cannot easily arrange for themselves:

  • Filter-coffee craft — the South Indian kaapi ritual, bean to davara-tumbler. Hands-on, and it photographs well
  • Deccani craft sessions — lac bangles, Bidri, attar, pearls, with the stories behind Laad Bazaar
  • Guided heritage walks — Charminar and the Old City, starting or finishing at the room, with the car held throughout
  • Storytelling and cultural sessions — Hyderabad, the Deccan and Sardar Mahal itself, curated with the Kalakriti India ecosystem

All of it closes around a table, with dietary needs settled at the time of booking.

Which floor should I recommend, for which guest?

Ground floor when the answer is "somewhere clean, calm and safe, right now" — walk in, no booking, any group size, street level, open 6 AM to midnight. Right for Jain and vegetarian families, senior travellers, and anyone back from Laad Bazaar with shopping bags.

KnK Private when the answer is "arrange something" — 4 to 24 guests, advance booking, air-conditioned and private, one bill, parking held. Right for international guests with a free afternoon, business travellers hosting colleagues, and delegations.

Who else has used it? I need to know before I stake my recommendation on it.

Guests and delegations from the U.S. Consulate General Hyderabad, the Government of Telangana, Salar Jung Museum, TiE Hyderabad, HYSEA and Sai Life Sciences have been hosted here.

The more useful answer for your purposes: come and see it yourself. We host front office and concierge teams for a complimentary tasting and walk-through, precisely so the recommendation you make is one you have lived rather than read.

Is there anything comparable in the precinct?

Not really, and that is a plain statement rather than a boast. The area around Charminar is superb at biryani, haleem and Irani chai. What it does not have is a bookable private room with parking, clean washrooms, air-conditioning and a fully vegetarian kitchen — which happens to be exactly the list a concierge needs when a guest asks. It is why this note exists at all.

Booking for a guest

How do I book on a guest's behalf?

One call or WhatsApp to +91 99517 90000, 10 AM to 7 PM. Give the guest count, the time, your hotel name, and any dietary flags or interests. That is enough to start.

Do I get anything in writing?

Yes — package, timing and parking confirmed back to your desk in writing, in the same conversation. That is deliberate. A concierge who has promised a guest something needs a record of it, not a verbal assurance from someone whose shift may have ended by the time the guest arrives.

How much notice do you need?
  • None — ground floor, any size, any hour
  • 1 day — KnK Private with a craft workshop, heritage walk or a private evening with storytelling
  • 2–3 days — a visiting delegation or VIP group with a curated cultural programme
  • Advance — any group of 4 to 24 wanting the private floor to themselves

If a date is tight, ask rather than assume. There is one private floor, so a popular evening goes early, but a same-day sitting is sometimes possible.

Can I book for a guest arriving in the next hour?

For the ground floor, yes — nothing needs arranging at all. Send them; it is walk-in at any hour and any group size. For the private floor, call and ask: it depends entirely on whether the room is already taken that evening. A straight answer either way, quickly.

What if the guest's numbers or timing change?

Tell the desk as soon as you know. Per-head packages are confirmed against a final headcount, so a number corrected the day before is routine. Guests change plans; that is not a problem unless nobody is told.

What happens if something goes wrong on the visit?

Concierge-referred issues are resolved the same day. Call +91 99517 90000, or Madan on site at +91 98489 50000. Your hotel's name is attached to the recommendation, which is exactly why it gets handled rather than explained away.

The car, and getting there

Where does the guest's car park? This is the question I get asked most.

Parking is held on every KnK Private booking, for cars and minibuses. Give the vehicle details when you book and the driver is told exactly where to go before they set out. Guests alight at the door, on the main road beside Sardar Mahal — they do not walk in from a lane.

Parking is the single most common reason a guest comes back from Charminar unhappy. This is the part of the arrangement worth remembering.

What exactly do I tell the driver?
“Sardar Mahal ke baju, BSNL ke saamne — Kaapi & Karam.”

Then the route: from Gulzar Houz take the left, right at Arman Hotel, and at the T-junction turn right towards Charminar. The outlet is on the main road immediately after Sardar Mahal, on the left. Drop-off is at the door. Plus Code 9F6G+GG works offline if the driver prefers a pin.

How far is it from the monument?

About two minutes on foot — roughly a hundred steps, beside Sardar Mahal and opposite the BSNL building. Close enough that a guest can leave their table, see Charminar and come back for coffee.

Is the driver looked after while they wait?

Yes — complimentary filter kaapi and a snack for the driver on every visit, and for an accompanying guide. Small thing, and the kind of thing hotel drivers remember and mention.

Is it right for this guest?

The family is Jain, or strictly vegetarian. Can I send them confidently?

Yes, and this is the strongest single reason to keep it on your list. The kitchen is 100% pure vegetarian with no eggs anywhere in the building and the premises are alcohol-free. There is no non-vegetarian section, so there is nothing to keep separate. Jain and no-onion-no-garlic on advance notice — flag the number of guests when you book.

“It is fully pure-vegetarian, no eggs anywhere, two minutes from Charminar. Jain on notice. I can reserve for you.”
The guest has a serious food allergy.

Say so before the booking is confirmed, not on the day. This is not an allergen-free kitchen — milk, wheat, nuts, lentils and a full spice range are handled daily in the same space. Vegetarian and Jain are straightforward; a serious nut or gluten allergy is a conversation to have first so the guest can decide with the facts.

My guest is elderly, or uses a wheelchair.

There is no lift in the building. KnK Private is up a staircase, so seat mobility-limited guests on the ground floor, which is at street level and step-free. Flag it when you book and the whole party is set downstairs rather than split.

Worth mentioning to the guest as well: the streets immediately around Charminar are narrow, uneven and busy. Better they hear that from you than discover it.

International guests — will they manage?

Yes. Service, booking and cultural context all in English, spice levels adjusted on request, air-conditioned and private, with clean Western-style washrooms. There is a guide for foreign visitors you can send them directly.

Is it comfortable for a woman travelling alone?

Yes. Air-conditioned, alcohol-free, well-lit entrance and staircase, staff in uniform, CCTV in the common areas. Solo travellers and women's groups use both floors regularly.

We are twelve and want to sit together. Can you take that?

Yes — the private floor takes 4 to 24 guests on advance booking, with a per-head package and one bill. Air-conditioned, calm, clean washrooms, nobody else in the room.

“Their private first floor seats up to twenty-four by advance booking, with one bill. I'll call and confirm.”
Can a guest have a drink with dinner?

No — the premises are entirely alcohol-free, and alcohol cannot be brought in. Worth saying at the time of booking rather than at the table. For a great many guests — families, delegations, observant travellers — it is a reason to go rather than a limitation.

Money & billing

How will the guest pay?

Cash and UPI. There is no card facility.

This one is worth telling the guest before they leave your desk, particularly an international guest who may be carrying cards and very little cash. A guest who cannot settle the bill is the one thing that would undo everything else in this arrangement. A GST invoice is issued on request.

Can it be billed to the room?

Not as a standard arrangement — the guest settles directly. If your hotel needs a different billing route for a delegation or a long-stay guest, that is a conversation with Neel Sharma on +91 99721 31903 rather than something the booking desk can set up on the day.

What does it cost per guest?

The ground floor is inexpensive by any standard — a full thali is ₹99, filter kaapi ₹30. KnK Private runs on fixed per-head packages, quoted and confirmed in writing when you book, varying by group size, meal and time of day. See packages and prices.

The arrangement with your hotel

Is there a commission?

We deliberately avoid that word, and not as a euphemism. This is an arrangement between two teams serving the same guest, and it is built to require nothing of your desk beyond the recommendation itself. Nothing to learn, nothing to track, nothing the guest ever sees.

So how does it actually work?
  • A referral code is allotted to your hotel
  • When a guest books, shows your card or simply mentions the hotel, our billing desk records the source — no effort from the guest or from you
  • Each month your designated contact gets a clear summary of guests received
  • A monthly hospitality gesture for the concierge and front office team, mutually agreed and discreet
  • A complimentary family meal voucher for the top-referring concierge
Will the guest see any of this?

No. The source is recorded quietly at the billing point. Nothing is announced, nothing appears on the guest's bill, and nobody asks them where they heard about it in front of their family.

Can our front office team visit before we start recommending it?

Yes, and we would much rather you did. A complimentary tasting and walk-through for your front office and concierge team — both floors, the menu, the washrooms, the person who will answer the phone on the day.

A recommendation made from first-hand experience is a different thing from one made from a leaflet, and both you and the guest can tell the difference. Arrange it on +91 99517 90000.
