“a meeting point between a city’s past and its future”
Deccan Chronicle came to write about a breakfast café six weeks into its soft launch, and left describing a cultural address. We won’t argue with the framing — it is closer to what we are building than anything we had put on our own website.
Kaapi & Karam sits inside a restored heritage structure a few minutes’ walk from Charminar. Bringing it back took real structural work: keeping the original character intact while making the place usable for people who expect a clean washroom and a working air conditioner in 2026. Traditional detail and modern comfort now share the same rooms. On the private floor upstairs, the walls carry work by local artists.
Walk in, order, eat. South Indian breakfast — idli, dosa, vada — and an unlimited afternoon meal the neighbourhood adopted quickly. Chaat and evening snacks came later, and only because customers asked for them. That is how the menu has grown throughout: someone asks, we listen, it appears.
K&K Private, the reservations-only upper floor, was never meant to be a fancier version of downstairs. Food alone will not bring anyone across Hyderabad. So the room is built for book readings, art workshops, sketching sessions, talks, heritage gatherings and community events — with curated platters and unlimited tea and coffee alongside. The programme is the reason to come; the food keeps you there.
Most of the area around Charminar is difficult to reach and harder to park at. We have parking and access. It sounds like a small thing next to heritage architecture and art on the walls, and it is the single reason a heritage walk group of twenty can finish their morning sitting down with us instead of standing in a lane. Partnerships with heritage walk organisers are already bringing groups through the door.
The Old City has never been short of history, architecture or stories. What it has been short of is somewhere contemporary to sit and share them. That is the whole idea.
